Chicago Mar Thoma church is very sensitive to the needs of the community and participated in various outreach pro-grams through the subcommittee of neighborhood mission. The neighborhood mission committee met periodically throughout the year. The committee consists of 14 members and the convener of the committee is Ms. Reba Varghese. The parish donates to the Des Plaines Community Foundation to help them with various service projects in our local community. In November, the neighborhood committee held a food drive through Catholic Charities. Our donated non-perishable items helped provide meals to the low-income families in the Des Plaines area. In December, neighborhood mission committee partnered with Salvation Army for the Angel Tree project. Parishioners donated clothes and gifts to children who did not receive gifts during the Christmas season.
